    Effective leadership involves promoting collaboration and cultivating trust among team members. Mutual confidence in each other’s expertise fosters interdependence, contributing to the achievement of organizational goals. This assessment will delve into the significance of leadership, various leadership styles, decision-making approaches, communication methods, and the importance of collaboration. The second section will focus on ethics, addressing questions from a questionnaire provided by Western Medical Enterprises.

    Section 1: Leadership and Collaboration Experience

    Three years ago, I assumed the role of marketing manager at ABC Laboratories Inc.’s Houston branch, a pharmaceutical company headquartered in New York City with 24 branches across the United States. Leading an eleven-member team, our task was to market a new influenza drug developed by the research and development department. Emphasizing collaboration, I adopted a democratic leadership style, involving team members of diverse backgrounds and ages. This approach fostered open communication, motivating team members and reducing absenteeism and turnover.

    Decision-making, integral to leadership, incorporated both analytical and behavioral styles. While the analytical style ensured comprehensive data analysis, the behavioral style facilitated team input, enhancing trust and project progress. Reflecting on the project, a greater emphasis on the behavioral style could have expedited planning. Effective communication, assertive yet respectful, facilitated clarity within the marketing team and collaboration with other departments.

    The integration of communication and leadership styles resulted in a committed team and successful project completion. Implementing a team-based reward system enhanced collaboration, promoting a sense of collective responsibility. Overcoming initial resistance, this approach fostered a collaborative environment and improved team efficiency.

    Section 2: Ethics Experience

    As a healthcare executive, ethical challenges arise with potential impacts on patients and their families. Guided by the code of ethics proposed by Childress and Beauchamp, I navigate ethical dilemmas using the LEADS framework. In a recent dilemma related to a new influenza drug, ethical principles of justice and non-maleficence conflicted with profit objectives.

    Recognizing the ethical dilemma, I formed a committee involving research and development, sales, and finance teams. The committee outsourced drug development, reducing costs and making it affordable for low-income households. This decision, aligned with the LEADS framework, resolved the dilemma ethically.

    Conclusion

    Leaders overseeing diverse teams must understand appropriate leadership styles, decision-making techniques, and communication methods. Ethical considerations are paramount, setting an example for the team and the organization. A defined ethical framework guides decision-making, emphasizing the importance of ethical leadership.
