    Collaboration and Leadership Reflection Video

Good morning, everyone. This is ___ speaking, and I welcome you to my reflection video on collaboration and leadership, focusing on interprofessional collaboration. This video aims to provide insights into self-evaluation and growth within interprofessional practice. The objectives for this presentation remain the same:

    1. Reflect on an interdisciplinary collaboration experience, highlighting both successful and unsuccessful aspects in achieving the desired outcome.
    2. Explore how poor collaboration can lead to inefficient management of human and financial resources.
    3. Identify best-practice leadership strategies from the literature that can enhance an interdisciplinary team’s ability to achieve its goals.
    4. Identify best-practice interdisciplinary collaboration strategies to facilitate goal achievement and teamwork.

Now, let me share a personal experience of collaboration, working alongside Mr. Smith as a registered nurse. In this role, I played a crucial part in fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. My responsibilities included coordinating Mr. Smith’s care, closely monitoring vital signs, medications, and symptoms. Regular morning meetings were held with the entire team to ensure everyone had a synchronized understanding of Mr. Smith’s situation. Collaboration with the pulmonologist and infectious diseases specialist involved combining and following their treatment plans. Working with the physiotherapist, we established a routine for respiratory exercises, and I kept the nutritionist informed about dietary preferences and restrictions. Despite occasional disputes over differing perspectives, our collaborative approach significantly contributed to Mr. Smith’s improved health outcome.

Reflecting on this interdisciplinary collaboration with Mr. Smith, one key achievement was successfully integrating diverse perspectives within the team. This integration ensured that Mr. Smith received comprehensive, individualized care, minimizing duplication and focusing on meeting his needs. Challenges included occasional inefficiencies in communication leading to delays and misunderstandings. To enhance collaboration, structured communication strategies, regular meetings, and a shared digital platform were suggested.

    Reflective Nursing Practice Benefits

Reflective practice plays a pivotal role in nursing, impacting past experiences to enhance future decision-making. Through introspection, nurses can evaluate their actions during patient interactions, identifying strengths and areas for improvement. Integrating insights from reflection can significantly improve patient outcomes and empower nurses to manage emotions, mitigating burnout.

Utilizing models such as Gibbs’ Reflective Cycle provides a structured framework for systematic assessment. Reflective practice fosters critical thinking, enhances decision-making skills, and promotes continuous learning, as supported by studies (Gantayet et al., 2022).

Poor Collaboration’s Impact on Resource Management Insufficient collaboration within interdisciplinary teams can lead to ineffective management of human and financial resources. Ineffective communication and coordination may result in overlapping duties, delays, and increased costs. Poor collaboration negatively impacts patient safety, job satisfaction, and incurs additional financial burdens.

Best Practice Leadership and Collaboration Strategies

Various best-practice leadership strategies for interdisciplinary teams include transformational leadership, participative leadership, emotional intelligence, and coaching/mentoring (Ndibu, 2019).

Best-practice interdisciplinary collaboration strategies involve clear and shared goals, defined roles and responsibilities, regular communication, mutual respect, and engaging in reflective practice (Hlongwa & Rispel, 2019; Hossny & Sabra, 2021).

In conclusion, collaboration and leadership reflection are vital for professional growth. This reflective mindset, combined with evidence-based practices, is essential for effective healthcare delivery. The video creation process requires introspection, self-evaluation, and effective communication skills, contributing to improved interprofessional collaboration and team effectiveness.
