Leadership involves overseeing the activities of individuals or groups to ensure the delivery of high-quality care. Effective healthcare leadership emphasizes the development of processes and structures that promote teamwork and collaboration among employees through clear communication channels, shared objectives, and a culture emphasizing teamwork (Bass, 2019).

    Case Study Analysis

    The case study, titled “Sleeping on the Job: A Managerial Challenge,” focuses on Marty, a nurse facing personal challenges affecting her work performance. Colleagues have expressed dissatisfaction, reporting issues such as lateness, early departures, and falling asleep on the job. To address this, the manager can employ a transformational leadership approach. Through open communication and collaboration, the manager and Marty can identify barriers hindering her success and devise an improvement plan. Encouraging Marty to share her ideas and aspirations is crucial, requiring consistent communication and collaboration (Alrowwad et al., 2020).

The transformational leadership model, emphasizing empowerment and collective work toward common goals, can be effective. In contrast, a transactional leadership style focuses on explicit goals and incentives.     Applying Leadership Strategy

    Addressing Marty’s situation requires a focus on her subpar performance and its impact on the nursing team. The most effective leadership approach is transformational leadership, which motivates and inspires employees. A plan to address Marty’s performance can lead to rebuilding trust among team members, setting clear goals, and fostering open communication. In the case of Marty, applying a transformational leadership approach can address performance issues and improve team dynamics.
