    Intervention Approach

The role of leadership in guiding group activities toward common objectives is crucial. In the challenging healthcare milieu, effective leadership is essential for achieving shared goals. Customizing various leadership philosophies is imperative to foster effective leadership styles and change management strategies in healthcare organizations. Leadership involves overseeing the activities of individuals or groups to ensure the delivery of high-quality care. Effective healthcare leadership emphasizes the development of processes and structures that promote teamwork and collaboration among employees through clear communication channels, shared objectives, and a culture emphasizing teamwork (Bass, 2019).

    Case Study Analysis

The case study, titled “Sleeping on the Job: A Managerial Challenge,” focuses on Marty, a nurse facing personal challenges affecting her work performance. Colleagues have expressed dissatisfaction, reporting issues such as lateness, early departures, and falling asleep on the job. To address this, the manager can employ a transformational leadership approach. Through open communication and collaboration, the manager and Marty can identify barriers hindering her success and devise an improvement plan. Encouraging Marty to share her ideas and aspirations is crucial, requiring consistent communication and collaboration (Alrowwad et al., 2020).

    Leadership Strategy

In the complex healthcare landscape, various leadership models can be applied. The transformational leadership model, emphasizing empowerment and collective work toward common goals, can be effective. In contrast, a transactional leadership style focuses on explicit goals and incentives. Transformational leadership is particularly effective in healthcare, fostering teamwork, collaboration, and communication, leading to improved employee engagement and job satisfaction (Espinoza et al., 2018).

    Applying Leadership Strategy

Addressing Marty’s situation requires a focus on her subpar performance and its impact on the nursing team. The most effective leadership approach is transformational leadership, which motivates and inspires employees. A plan to address Marty’s performance can lead to rebuilding trust among team members, setting clear goals, and fostering open communication. Transformational leadership has broader positive impacts on healthcare organizations, improving patient outcomes, job satisfaction, and financial performance (Collins et al., 2020).

    Organizational Change Model

The ADKAR model serves as a valuable framework for implementing change. In Marty’s case, the five stages of awareness, desire, knowledge, ability, and reinforcement can guide the transformation process. Engaging in one-on-one discussions, cultivating a desire for change, re-educating Marty, and providing ongoing support are crucial steps. Positive reinforcement, including feedback and recognition, helps in maintaining productivity and achieving goals (Wong et al., 2019; Cronshaw et al., 2021).

Implications of Care Policy and Legislation

Nurses have a unique position to influence public health policy, as highlighted by the American Nurses Association (ANA). The “Healthy Nurse. Healthy Nation” program emphasizes health and safety policy, advocating for regulations that promote nurses’ well-being. This initiative provides resources for nurses like Marty, addressing underlying concerns affecting mental and physical health, ultimately improving job performance and patient care.

    Conclusion

Effective leadership is indispensable for organizational success. Transformational leaders in healthcare motivate employees, manage change, and nurture growth. In the case of Marty, applying a transformational leadership approach can address performance issues and improve team dynamics. The ADKAR model provides a framework for organizational change, while care policy and legislation, such as the ANA’s initiatives, play a crucial role in empowering nurses and enhancing healthcare outcomes.
